At 10:00 a.m. we had a pre-conference meeting with the hotel staff. After the meeting we went with Barbara and Dennis to Kahului to put our rental car from my name to Barbara’s so it could be paid by the conference.
Strangely, Barbara’s special Executive Emerald Club rate with National was more than my “off the street” rate. She complained that this wasn’t right and insisted on a better outcome. We decided to switch to a mini-van so we could carry more passengers. Well, Barb negotiated all right. The mini van is only costing her $16 a day. But as we drove away it dawned on us that we had traded in a brand new SUV for a well used (vents missing from the ceiling air conditioning, instrument panels missing from the dash, thrashed interior), or as we affectionately call it “our rent-a-wreck” mini van. More laughs about that one.
We returned to the hotel and Renea went to the pool while I searched for a local place to make photocopies of our conference flyers. I made nearly a half-dozen calls to different places and kept getting answering machines – and it was 3:45 in the afternoon. Well, this is Maui and the surf must have been up.
For dinner we dined at Duo Restaurant at the Four Seasons Hotel. It is the only 5 star hotel in Hawaii and it is the hotel that Governor Arnold stays.

Barbra insisted we go early to watch the hula dancer in the lounge. She also insisted we go to the Four Seasons lounge last year to see the hula dancer, but the hula dancer was not performing that night. So as we went tonight, I told Barb that if the hula dancer wasn’t there then Barbara would have to hula for us. Here is a picture of our hula entertainment for the evening...

Dinner was great. I shared a rib eye steak with Dennis and Renea had a salad, veggies, and a baked potato (in honor of Coconut). At the end of dinner, they serve cotton candy.

Bill and Sherry Leonard decided to walk back to the hotel. We drove our rent-a-wreck. As we passed them on the dark road, we honked our horn long and loud. I think Bill wet his pants. More hysterics ensued.
